Abstract Based on the concept of characteristic groups, this paper introduces in detail the rules of the priority order of characteristic groups, the lowest set of locants, CIP order and so on in Nomenclature of Organic Compounds 2017. The specific examples in this paper are compared with the corresponding rules of the 80th edition, so that the teachers and students can use the new principles to carry out academic exchanges and teaching practices as soon as possible.
