Abstract The single-atom Pt was supported on graphene oxide (Pt/rGO) by a chemical reduction method for catalytic oxidation of CO. The single-atom Pt/rGO catalyst was characterized by transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, high-angle annular dark field scanning transmission electron microscopy and Fourier infrared spectroscopy. This experiment includes the synthesis, characterization and catalytic tests of Pt/rGO. The effects of metal loading and reaction temperature on the activity of the catalyst were investigated. The performance of CO oxidation reaction was evaluated by gas chromatography. The experiment is of moderate difficulty. It is close to the experimental content of the frontier of scientific research. It allows students to experience a comprehensive scientific research process, inspire students' research interests, and cultivate their scientific research capabilities.
