Abstract Considering the current requirements of general education and the status of chemistry in natural science, this paper first discussed the necessity and operability of introducing an interdisciplinary course construction in chemistry-centered general education. Subsequently, taking the general education course of chemistry and society as an example, this paper systematically shared the concept of curriculum design and the construction of content framework after introducing an interdisciplinary perspective. The practical experience was shared by demonstrating the implementation process with the details of a typical class as an example. Moreover, the effect and further improvement of this exploration were discussed by analyzing students' interview data. Our effort is to obtain a grander view and share valuable experience for the development of interdisciplinary science education.
