Abstract Mole, as the unit of amount of substance, has a wide range of applications in chemistry and biology. In 1971, Mole was adopted as the seventh basic unit of the international system of units and remained so for nearly 50 years. On November 16th of 2018, a decision to redefine the "mole" was made at the 26th meeting of the General Conference on Weights and Measures (CGPM), and new definition would be implemented on May 20th of 2019. Then, as a widely accepted SI unit, why was it redefined? How was the redefinition realized? What would happen after the redefinition? This paper elaborated one by one.
