Abstract This paper compared the functions of illustrations for “structure of matter and periodic law of chemical elements” in the senior high school textbook Chemistry published by People's Education Press in China and Chemistry:Concepts and Applications in the United States, analyzed the differences in arrangement characteristics, presentation methods and functional intentions of the illustrations, hoped to provide reference for the arrangement reform and form innovation of illustrations for the follow-up textbook preparation in China.
