Properties and Applications of Cerium and Its Compounds

Abstract Cerium, as one of the rare earth elements, has the unique characteristics of 4f electron layer and lanthanide contraction of the rare earth elements. In addition, due to its 4f15d16s2 electron configuration, cerium element has certain applications in dyeing agent, catalyst, polishing powder and magnetic materials. The properties, preparation and application of cerium and cerium compounds are introduced in this paper.
