Application of GC-MS in Organic Chemistry Experiment Teaching

Abstract The advantages and disadvantages of the preparation of cyclohexanone by the sodium hypochlorite oxidation method and sodium dichromate oxidation method were compared in terms of environmental protection and product yield. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry method was applied to the qualitative and quantitative analysis of cyclohexanone. The results showed that sodium hypochlorite oxidation method was superior to sodium dichromate oxidation in both environmental protection and product yield. It not only helped students to learn how to choose the best method when a kind of compound can be synthesized by multiple ways but also enabled the students to improve experimental ability as well as to have a certain understanding of the material analysis techniques and instruments.
