Abstract Using Hydrophobic sand as material, a project teaching case suitable for the high school elective course “Developing Chemistry Discipline” is developed in this paper. It is also suitable for science practice activity course of junior high school. The project guides students to understand matter and its changing law in a broader discipline context and helps students broaden their vision and thinking. The project helps students developing key competencies of “macro-identification and micro-analysis” “scientific inquiry and innovation consciousness” “scientific attitude and social responsibility”.
