Abstract In “AP Chemistry Guided Inquiry Activities for the Classroom” handbook, the learning target and the assessment evidences are essential in the guided inquiry teaching with UbD model based on the backward design method, which can avoid misleading and overemphasizing on activity itself in designing process. The introduction of the backward design and its application in VSEPR teaching activities is expected to provide a guideline for innovation of inquiry teaching in domestic middle schools.
