Abstract Silicon is one of the most abundant elements in the earthcrust and one of the key elements in life. This article mainly focus on the information technology, energy and health which are the most concerned in today’s society. Semiconductor silicon, silica and organosilicone are mentioned on their important roles and the underlying chemical principles. Then we briefly look forward to the future development perspectives.
