Abstract In order to improve the accuracy of measuring the cross-sectional area of lower straight-chain alcohol molecular in teaching experiments, by using the maximum bubble method and Szyszkowski formula as the fitting equation, the molecular cross-sectional area of various lower straight-chain alcohols in four concentration ranges were systematically investigated, and it was determined that the ranges of different concentration were suitable for the determination of the various molecular alcohol cross-sectional area by this method in this study. Furthermore, it was discussed that there was intrinsic relationship among the length of carbon chain, the concentration and the adsorption behavior on the surface of the alcohol molecule.
