Abstract A comprehensive experiment including preparation of nickel hydroxide film and evaluation on electrocatalytic activity in oxygen evolution reaction was established in this paper. Through the experiment, students can (1) learn the technology of preparing electrocatalyst films by electrochemical deposition method; (2) preliminarily grasp the activity-evaluation method of electrocatalysts used in oxygen evolution reactions by electrochemical techniques such as cyclic voltammetry and Tafel curve; (3) recognize the objective fact that trace amounts of impurity elements (iron) may have a significant effect on the material properties (electrocatalytic activity). This experiment will guide students to pay attention to the development and application of green renewable energy, which is conducive to the cultivation of students' chemical application ability.
