Abstract Based on the scientific research project, a chemical professional experiment is recommended: preparation, characterization and performance determination of novel hydrophobic associating polymer. This experiment can make the students master the basic principles of free radical copolymerization, understand some basic operations of large instruments, polymer characterization methods and structure analysis methods. Besides, it is benefit for students to grasp the deep theory relationship of hydrophobic associating polymer between structure and properties.The experiment is derived from the scientific research, and involves polymerization reaction, structure characterization and performance test of macromolecular solution. Thus, this applied and research based work is integrated, advanced, valuable. This experiment is helpful to improve the level of students' professional experiment, improve students' comprehensive quality, innovation consciousness and practice ability.
