Abstract In order to expand the use of cobalt salt (Ⅱ), based on the diversity of salt (Ⅱ) in alkali solution and the difference in the content of soluble carbonate solution,an effective method was established to fast, conveniently and effectively identify sodium carbonate solution and sodium bicarbonate solution by cobalt (Ⅱ) salt. The experimental results showed that after the reaction, the sodium carbonate solution showed clear blue turbidity or precipitation, while the sodium bicarbonate solution presented clear purplish red turbidity or precipitation. This method possesses the following advantages: obvious experimental phenomenon, safety and reliability, good reproducibility, high success rate, strong applicability, wide application. It can be applied to food and drug testing, food quality and safety, medicine and health, chemistry and chemical industry and other technical fields, and can also be used as a classroom demonstration experiment.
