Abstract A systematic and integrated experiment including “polycrystalline powder synthesis→phase analysis →crystal growth→material characterization” was established to improve the students' comprehensive and analytical ability. The basic knowledge of crystallography was involved during practical crystal growth process. On one hand, the effect of crystal growth dynamics factors (such as supersaturation, temperature and material diffusion) on crystal growth habits and morphology can be interpreted more deeply. On the other hand, the students can learn some important methods of material characterization. Moreover, the basic theory of crystal structure can be mastered. Importantly, the capability of applying theoretical knowledge to practice was improved and a research approach with systematic science principle can be learned through this experiment at last.
