Abstract This article introduces a comprehensive organic chemistry experiment which carried out in College of Chemistry, Nankai University. In this experiment, N-benzyl maleimide was employed as the reactant, and tri-molecule tandem cyclization reaction occurred under the catalysis of tributyl phosphine to generate N-benzyl maleimide trimer. The structure of the product is characterized by 1H NMR, 13C NMR and X-ray single crystal diffraction. The organic chemistry comprehensive experiment not only effectively improves the students' basic experimental operation ability and consolidates the understanding of professional knowledge, but also helps cultivate students' rigorous scientific attitude and interest in scientific research and lays a solid foundation for subsequent learning and further studies.
