Abstract Herein, we share a skillful method for learning of the various structures of sugars by combining left-hand gestures with a poem of five-character quatrain. The poem is: “Luo Zhuo Pu Gu Ta, Ganlu Ai Banru. He A Mu Laisu, Tongtang Guo Shan-gu”, which contains common twelve aldoses and six ketoses. Through the left-hand gestures, not only can you quickly write the Fischer projections of various common natural sugars, but also accurately draw the corresponding Haworth formulas and the chair conformation. It is worthy of promotion in sugar teaching.
