Abstract To further improve the precision and generality of the detection of iron content in iron supplements by image colorimetry, the influence of shooting environment on the results was investigated, the quantitative parameter suitable for image colorimetry was confirmed, and the colorimetric results with solutions in different containers were compared. The content of actual samples and the recovery were measured under the optimal conditions. The results showed that the key to obtaining reliable data was collecting a single image of samples, standards, and blanks. It presented the best linear relationship between the absorbance values converted from the R values of the solutions and the concentration. Analysis of the images of these solutions in cuvettes, test tubes and drip board produced data that were suitable for quantitative colorimetric analysis. The recovery for this method was >95%. With the characteristics of easy operation and accurate, the method could be widely used in high school chemistry laboratory with various conditions.
