Abstract Determination of change in molar enthalpy is a typical experiment in general chemistry experimental courses. Error cause analysis of experimental data is an important task in this experiment. The text contents in 724 experimental reports are reviewed and classified according to error sources and error property. It is found students' logic in error analysis was intensively affected by experimental textbook or teaching. Based on these reflections, it is suggested to improve students' sense of evidential reasoning for better performance on error analysis.
