Abstract Taking the teaching of the big concept of “material composition” as an example, based on subject understanding,and taking relevant chemical history as a clue, this teaching plan is designed to enable students to gradually form the macro, micro and macro-micro perspectives of material composition in the process of tracing the development of relevant concepts and theories of “material composition”. In the process of solving real problems, students are trained to have the ability of scientific reasoning based on evidence. Through the development of cognitive perspective, students can realize that scientific theory is constantly developing and advanced, then the scientific development concept is established.
