Abstract In order to solve the problem of insufficient cultivation of innovation and practical ability in chemical engineering courses, starting from the requirements of engineering education professional certification, taking the course of “fundamental of chemical design” as an example, the course objectives, teaching contents, teaching mode, assessment and evaluation are reformed. Practice has proved that the reform scheme can realize the deep integration of theory and practice, effectively improve students' professional knowledge, practical ability and engineer literacy, and improve the quality of chemical engineering education.
