Abstract Under the new era of core literacy-oriented chemistry teaching practice, the cognitive model of corresponding topics is constructed based on the understanding of chemistry subject, which can improve teachers’ understanding level of chemistry subject, and then carry out literacy-oriented classroom teaching to promote teachers’ professional development, thus providing important ideas and directions for the theoretical and practical research of chemistry education. Taking electrochemistry as an example, this paper constructs its cognitive model based on the understanding of chemistry subject, hoping that its research ideas and process can enlighten the theory and teaching research of other chemistry subjects.
