A comparative analysis of the contents of heat of reaction in the new and old PEP editions textbooks from the curriculum standard, organization of the conceptual structure, and teaching materials reveals that: (1) The new curriculum standard emphasizes the subject understanding of heat of reaction. The content of the new curriculum standard permeates basic concepts such as the concept of change and conservation as well as highlight the importance of learning materials; (2) The content organization of the new textbook clarifies the relationship between the core concepts like heat of reaction, enthalpy change and energy conversion, and emphasizes the importance of structural understanding of heat of reaction; (3) The new textbooks have enhanced contextuality and scientificity in pictures, experiments, and exercises. It is recommended that teachers enhance their subject understanding of heat of reaction in teaching, use conceptual composition strategies to promote the structuring of students’ knowledge, create real situations to improve students’ problem-solving ability, and cultivate the core literacy of chemistry.

According to the history of Boyle’s research on combustion, the combustion conditions were innovatively designed for the experimental study, and a new idea of “superposable” combustion conditions was put forward. By taking “combustion-extinguishment-control” as a main line, that conditions were a basic perspective for understanding chemical reactions was consistently articulated, and the chemical concept of substance transformation under certain conditions was implemented. Based on the idea of chemical reaction control, the field of view of reaction control of “combustion, complete combustion, slight combustion and extinguishment” was innovatively designed, and the learning activities of scenario, activity and task were integrated together. The chemistry knowledge was integrated with the fields of aesthetic education and Chinese language and culture by resetting the teaching value orientation of the experiments in the textbook and combining the aesthetics of combustion with Chinese characters.

Based on structure and function, transformation and energy, the unit teaching of structure, properties and applications of sweet molecules xylitol and glucose are designed and implemented. This unit teaching creates a situation based on the identification of xylitol and glucose, which stimulates students’ interest through the fact that xylitol has silver mirror reaction, and guides students to construct the relationship between the structure and properties of multi-functional organic compounds from the interaction between groups. The possibility of silver mirror reaction of erythritol and other saturated polyols is predicted and verified. The knowledge will promote students to dialectically understand sugar substitutes from the perspective that properties determine applications, and scientifically select sugar substitutes. Furthermore, the understanding of the decisive role of polar unsaturated bonds on the properties and uses of organic compounds from the perspective of steric hindrance is developed. This unit teaching develops students’ qualities such as macro micro combination, evidence reasoning, model cognition and scientific spirit, and promotes the integration of “teaching, learning and evaluation” through group cooperation.

Thematic Project-Based Learning (TPBL) in chemistry is a way of learning in which students are inspired by their previous project experiences to explore real and intrinsically linked driven tasks in a thematic context. The projects in TPBL are not independent, but are interlinked and integrated into a thematic context. The “similarities” between projects provide opportunities for students to transfer and apply knowledge, while the “differences” force students to think critically about the scope of their knowledge. The constant interaction between old and new items links the learning journey of students, allowing for continuous growth of experience and cognitive development.

This paper reviews the aspects of establishment, content, characteristics on chemical PCK rubrics, as well as the research design and purpose of the empirical research using the rubrics. The review shows that: (1) Domestic and foreign research mostly build rubrics based on existing results, and rarely based on original data. Compared with foreign research, domestic research on the latter is more scarce; (2) Domestic and foreign research mostly measure KoC, KoL, KoS, but less KoA, CTO and integration; (3) Domestic and foreign research mostly use subject-specific rubrics, and a small number of domestic research have developed topic-specific rubrics; (4) Compared with foreign research, domestic research use less concept map and qualitative-quantitative mixed analysis method; (5) Compared with foreign research, domestic research pay more attention to ascertaining research, but less to explore the relationship between PCK levels and other variables, as well as interventional research. At the end of the paper, some suggestions are put forward for the development of localized PCK rubrics for empirical research and chemistry teacher education.

In 1781, the Swedish chemist Scheele discovered tungstic acid in scheelite, which he predicted must contain a new metallic element and named Tungsten. Then in 1783, the de Elhuyar brothers successfully extracted what Scheele said from the wolframite, and named it Wolfram. In 1803, the English chemist Dalton’s atomic theory was introduced, giving a new meaning to the element tungsten: a tungsten atom with a certain mass. After 1930, the discovery of tungsten isotopes led to a new understanding of tungsten element and gradually formed the modern concept of tungsten element. The understanding of tungsten element has gone through a developmental process from hypothesis to objective existence, from qualitative to quantitative, and from macroscopic to microscopic. The evolution of the concept of tungsten element reflects the progress of scientific thought and scientific method.
