Abstract The calculating of the degree of polymerization in the linear condensation polymerization, and the teaching experience of the corresponding section for undergraduate students are discussed. It is found that during the teaching, the traditional calculation equation is easy to cause students' misunderstanding and confusion. In this paper, a new parameter is defined and the corresponding calculation equations are developed to make the new equation clear and simple. This new parameter is clearly defined, easy for students to understand and master, and good teaching results have been achieved in the teaching practice.
