Abstract Using historical facts related to the formation and development of human knowledge about carbon dioxide as question clue and main teaching thread, the teaching situation was designed, in which the history of science was utilized to help improve students' general understanding of properties of carbon dioxide and facilitate them to preliminarily establish a basic route and method to learn everyday substances. The study provided a reference for classroom teaching of chemistry teachers in junior high schools.
