Abstract RTOP is a classroom observation tool created by the Arizona Teacher Collaboration, which is used to observe and evaluate the teaching effect of teachers in the classroom. In this paper, the RTOP tool is used to conduct a total of 20 trial classes for 17 masters of chemistry education in a normal university and three masters of chemistry education who have won the first prize in the National Competition. The classroom observation is carried out in three dimensions: teaching design and implementation, teaching content and classroom culture. The results show that the RTOP tool has a good degree of differentiation in the evaluation of teaching effect of master of education, which can directly reflect the difference of classroom performance of master of education at different levels. It is found that the performance of the master of chemistry education in the university still needs to be improved in encouraging students to seek multiple ways to solve problems, guiding students to make predictions, hypotheses and design test methods, and guiding students to reflect and evaluate.
