Abstract This paper designs practical activity in the production situation of homemade candies based on the STEAM education concepts. The activity takes caramel candy as the carrier, allowing students to use their knowledge in the fields of chemistry, engineering, technology and aesthetics to complete three tasks, including the production of caramel candies, exploring the factors affecting the Maillard reaction rate, and designing functional caramel candy. The activity develops students’ scientific thinking, improves problem-solving ability and aesthetic ability in real situation.
