Abstract The core of green chemistry is to use chemical principles to reduce or eliminate the environmental pollution caused by industrial production at its source. The “greening” of a chemical experiment is the inevitable trend of the development of chemical experiment teaching in high schools and colleges. The synthesis of pyrrole derivatives by Paal-Knorr reaction is easily carried out at room temperature without catalyst and solvent, which meets the requirements of green chemistry and thus can integrate the concept of green chemistry into the teaching of basic chemistry experiments. This experiment has low risk, low requirements for instruments, very high success rate and short time-consuming, and thus it is very suitable for teaching experiments in colleges.
