Abstract With the project theme of “making colored flame candle”, the maker teaching of “flame test” was carried out. Based on the textbook with their own doubts, students first explored the cause of flame color, chose materials, improved the effect of color flame, and finally made colored flame candle. During the process, they mastered the experimental operation of flame test, understood the cause of flame color, built a cognitive model of “guess-evidence-conclusion-use”, cultivated the ability of scientific inquiry, cooperative learning, thinking and improvement, and raised the sense of their social responsibility.
