Abstract The second-period review for college entrance examination should focus on improving students’ abilities and developing their academic quality in chemistry. To demonstrate how to use the knowledge and information to solve complex problems in a real situation, the revision class combining electrochemical principles and industrial processes about lithium battery is designed for relieving the anxiety of students. The preparation, laboratory assembling, charging and discharging principles, and recycling of the lithium battery are discussed throughout the class. Based on the real situation, ten challenging tasks with evaluation functions are given. The students’ performance will be evaluated and guided immediately according to the evaluation scales, which can promote the development of their high-level thinking ability greatly. Reflection has been carried out after the class. The challenging tasks should be assigned step by step; the growth of high-level thinking needs sufficient time; and knowledge that may not be tested can be more valuable.
