Abstract Due to the clear display and sharing capabilities, virtual simulation teaching is now common in many teaching phases. This paper talks about the “Structural Chemistry Experiment” course using virtual simulation. It covers the course design, implementation details, and its role in building core chemical literacy. The course is designed based on the entry-level quantum-chemical calculation tasks of ORCA and VMD softwares. It included seven progressive and task-focused experiments. Surveys show that this course helps students establish a model-based mindset, boost the application of quantum-chemical calculation, understand related professional basic courses, and cultivate of professional chemistry literacy.
