Abstract Polycarbonate is a kind of engineering plastics with excellent comprehensive performance. Since the founding of New China, polycarbonate has been widely used in electrical, mechanical, aviation, automotive, instrumentation and other fields, and has had a significant impact on national defense, economic construction and cutting-edge technology. The article examines the development history of polycarbonate in China in the 20th century and divides it into three stages: the first one is from 1949 to 1970, referring to foreign achievements for trial production, independently establishing a hundred tons to a thousand tons of production equipment, solving the problem of polycarbonate from scratch; The second one is from 1970 to 1978, independently carrying out the quality of polycarbonate and technological research and development war to solve the problems of poor product quality; The third is 1978-2000, independently carrying out new technology development and expanding production capacity, accelerating the solution of core production technology breakthroughs and industrial scale-up problems. Based on the results of the study, the discussion is made from the perspectives of industrialization and technology, technological innovation, as well as the history of chemistry and chemistry education.
