Abstract Petrochemical technology is a bridge course between theory and practice. The case of “the production of ethylene glycol by reactive distillation” was used in the teaching of green chemical technology. The chemical simulation software Aspen Plus was also introduced to simulate and optimize the direct hydration process and reactive distillation process. The energy consumption and environmental impact of the two processes were discussed according the simulation results. This teaching method can strengthen the understanding of petrochemical technology course of students. And it can improve the students’ project practical ability and energy-saving awareness.
