Abstract Taking “plant iron supplement” as a micro-project, this paper carried out a comprehensive review of the optional compulsory module “material structure and properties”. The micro-project learning during the two classes included three core links: determining the composition of plant iron supplements, studying the preservation and use of iron supplements, and improving the structure and properties of iron supplements. Based on the experimental evidence and literature, the changes of structure and properties of ferrous sulfate crystals in the process of dissolving in water were studied, and the models of chemical reaction analysis at the macro level and material structure analysis at the micro level were established. Finally, the model was applied to regulate the properties and improve the structure of plant iron supplements, deeply realizing the value of material structure research, and developing scientific spirit and innovation ability.
