Abstract In view of the deficiencies of hypochlorous acid photolysis experiments in textbooks and literature, digital experiments are used to explore the key factors for the success of hypochlorous acid photolysis experiments from the aspects of light conditions, chlorine water concentration, sensors, and experimental characterization. The measured data of dissolved oxygen, pH and chloride ion concentrations are used to support the multiple characterization of hypochlorous acid photolysis process. Help students promote their understanding of hypochlorous acid decomposition reaction through experiments and develop students' core literacy in chemistry disciplines such as evidence reasoning and model cognition, experimental inquiry and innovation awareness.
