Abstract Taking the “test of drunk driving” as the context, the chemistry experiment exploration review class teaching of senior three was carried out around the reaction of potassium dichromate solution and ethanol. This paper selects the experimental conclusion that the potassium dichromate solution without strong acid acidification does not react with ethanol, which violates students’ cognition, to explore. Combined with the relevant knowledge of chemical reaction principle, the teaching is gradually carried out by using the experimental exploration situation. The conclusion is that the potassium dichromate alcohol detector can use colorimetric detection to detect exhaled alcohol and its content. In theory, the potassium dichromate alcohol detector can be changed from colorimetric type to numerical type to enhance the effectiveness of the exploration review course of senior three chemistry experiments.
