Abstract This paper introduces the achievements in the discovery and development of green fluorescent protein(GFP) of three scientists(Osamu Shimomura, Martin Chalfie and Roger Y. Tsien) who are jointly awarded the 2008 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. Moreover, the structure,properties and application of GFP are given.
