Abstract As an important subfield of physical chemistry, kinetics can provide fundamental understanding of a certain chemical reaction for further mechanistic study or rate acceleration. The methodology and principle of investigation in a quantified manner are quite different from the normal organic synthetic chemistry, which is rarely mentioned though in domestic undergraduate organic laboratory. This paper introduced a traditional organic chemistry experiment for undergraduates abroad, namely the kinetic study of SN1 solvolysis, and analyzed 3 significant aspects of the experimental process. The design and implementation of this experiment are worth applying to the Chinese undergraduate experimental education.
