Abstract In this paper, we designed a simple gas sensing experiment. Because of the coins contain kinds of metallic elements, it will form a layer of oxide on the surface of the coins after heating in air. The oxide could detect various gases based on its sensing mechanism. In the gas sensing experiment, hydrogen was generated according to the reaction between metal and acid solution, the resistance change of oxidized coin is proportion to the concentration of generated hydrogen. This is a experimental case close relate to the scientific principle and the sensing technology, which is favour for conducting students to study the gas sensor and scientific thinking.
