Abstract The environmentally-benign and inexpensive FeCl3-catalyzed H2O2-oxidation of benzyl alcohol to benzaldehyde in water at room temperature is a representative method for the alcohol oxidation. Moreover, this in-situ generated catalyst displayed the high catalytic activity and selectivity. In such a reaction, the over-oxidation of the product to benzoic acid did not occur.
