Abstract The characteristics and differences of teaching college chemistry in Chinese and English were compared, and the corresponding methods were adopted to increase the learning effect in Chinese and English respectively. The methods included the followings:(1) To overcome weak points by learning from the other's strong points and introduce multiple ways to broaden the thinking of the students and help the students to understand and master the contents of college chemistry; (2) To teach students by different teaching methods in accordance with their aptitude and their characteristics; (3) To make progress by learning from each other among the Chinese and foreign students. By doing this, the learning effect can be improved in both Chinese and English class, and the class will be more well-directed, diverse and interesting.
