The Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2017: Cryo-Electron Microscopy Technology
The Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2017 was awarded to three scientists for developing cryo-electron microscopy (Cryo-EM). The three scientists' contribution to the development of Cryo-EM is profiled in this paper. Cryo-EM's application, general working process, limitation as well as Chinese scholars' contributions to the application and research of Cryo-EM are also discussed.
Development of Modern Bulletproof Materials
The continuous innovation and development of bulletproof materials has brought the modernization of bulletproof equipment. The development of modern bulletproof materials went through three generations:The first generation is an age of special steel, aluminum alloy and other hard metals for the bulletproof materials; The second generation is synthetic polymer materials, especially high-performance fiber represented by Kevlar; The third generation bulletproof materials is based on high performance organic-inorganic composite materials.

Design of Comprehensive Chemistry Experiment Based on Ethanol/Water Membrane Separation
Based on the technology of bio ethanol dehydration, we designed a comprehensive experiment about the preparation of a porous membrane and evaluation of its water/ethanol separation performance. This experiment expounds the overall design idea of material selection, oriented preparation, structural characterization and performance testing, the training of operation skills, and further development directions. This experiment introduces the frontiers of scientific research and pays more attention to practical problems, which can promote the combination of theory and practice, stimulate students' innovative and converse thinking, and enhance students' problem solving ability.
Misunderstanding in the Process of Improving the Quality of Analytical Chemistry Experiment Teaching
In this paper, we summed up the typical misunderstandings in the teaching of analytical chemistry experiment, including the teaching significance of titration experiment, "nanny-type" teaching mode, experimental safety awareness, assessment for the course, and technology updating. To solve these problems, we studied the students' ability of scientific research, and exchanged ideas with other universities.Furthermore, we put forward some improvement measures, including clear the intension of analytical chemistry experiment, adjustment and optimization of curriculum and standard for evaluation, strengthen the laboratory soft environment and experimental details. As a result, the teaching effect of analytical chemistry experiment has been improved powerfully.
Michaelis Constant Determination for Laccase Catalyzed Oxidation of 2,6-Dimethoxyphenol with UV-Vis Spectroscopy and Chronoamperometry
Comprehensive experiment was introduced in this paper to propose different methods to measure kinetic parameter of enzymatic catalysis. Michaelis constant for catalytic oxidation of phenol-like compound induced by Laccase immobilization on the magnetic nano-particle over-lapped by derivative of natural polymer, was determined by UV-Vis spectroscopy and chronoamperometry, respectively. Results from experiments indicated no distinguished difference was observed for values of Michaelis constant measured by both methods while the latter showed such advantages as convenient operation, swift response and favorable precision. It was more important that superiority of better reproducibility and smaller error could be found in result of determination in content of phenol for chronoamperometry in comparison to that for UV-Vis spectroscopy. All of these indicated chronoamperometry could be suitable for measurement of phenol content on-line.
Preparation and Characterization of Novel Composite Gels and Surface Microstructures by Simple Method
The surface microstructures of the materials will endow the material with unique properties. Hydrogels have a wide application prospect in the field of biomedicine. In this experiment, the composite gel and gel patterned surface microstructure are prepared innovatively by one step. The PNIPAM/PEGDA composite gel has both the temperature sensitivity and the novel structural features of the patterned microstructures. This experiment is helpful to cultivate students' innovative consciousness and to stimulate students' interests in learning and engaged in scientific research.

Research on Chemical Engineering Comprehensive Experiment: Separation of Ethanol Aqueous Solution
Comprehensive experiment of chemical engineering was essential for training students' innovative spirit and engineering practice ability. Taking separation of ethanol aqueous solution as an example, the experiments of vapor-liquid equilibrium measurement and extractive distillation process simulation were combined to form a comprehensive simulation experiment, involving the measurement method of vapor-liquid equilibrium of ternary system, regression and evaluation of the experimental data using thermodynamic models, the extractive distillation process simulation, the influences of some factors on the separation effect. This comprehensive experiment could deepen the students' understanding of theoretical knowledge, improve the level of experimental operation.Through this experiment, students could have a certain understanding of the industrial application of extractive distillation, which could improve the students' engineering practice ability. This experiment was benefit to the cultivation of applied talents.
Academic English Writing for Postgraduates from Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Major
In this paper, high standard research articles which have been published in the chemistry and chemical engineering field were selected as examples to introduce the writing methods of each section of the research paper including abstract, introduction, experimental, results and discussion and conclusions. In addition, the selection of tense and voice and the frequently used sentence structures of each section were also demonstrated, providing references for postgraduates during research paper writing.
Teaching Reform of Inorganic Chemistry Based on Interactive Response System
Interactive response system in inorganic chemistry teaching was introduced aiming at solving the problems existing in basic inorganic chemistry teaching. This paper mainly introduced the application of interactive teaching system in several ways, such as the design of teaching procedure, the interactive teaching mode, the post-tests and the course summary. The interactive response teaching mode played an important role in promoting the teaching of inorganic chemistry. The average attendance rate was 99% during the semester. More than 95% of students believed that this interactive approach could enliven the classroom and stimulate learning interests, and they were willing to accept this interactive teaching mode based on classroom voting devices.
