Abstract In the instrumental analysis experiment course, the experimental teaching reform based on blending teaching and formative evaluation was carried out. The results showed that the self-learning ability, learning interests and hands-on ability of the students in reform group were improved. The curriculum scores of the students in the teaching reform group were better than the control group. The t-test (p<0.05) showed that the scores of the two groups were significantly different. Therefore, new teaching method and the way of evaluation are beneficial to expand the learning space, stimulate students' interests in learning, cultivate students' autonomous learning ability and evaluate the learning effect objectively.
