Abstract This study from the chemistry key competency lens examined 204 preservice chemistry teachers' beliefs about the teaching goals, including expectancy beliefs and efficacy beliefs. Results showed that both expectancy and efficacy beliefs can be explained by either 4-fator or 5-factor structure. Based on above factor structures and through paired t-test, it was found that the levels of expectancy beliefs were significantly higher than those of efficacy beliefs.
