Abstract Engineering projects can be used for inorganic chemistry teaching of environmental specialty against the background of engineering education. In this paper, the application of chemical absorption in carbon capture technology was studied as an example for the engineering project. The knowledge of acid-base theory, chemometrics, chemical thermodynamics, and chemical kinetics in this course, was used for the solutions of some key issues in carbon capture technology, such as the selections of the absorbent and the desorption method, and the methods of improving the absorption capacity and the absorption rate. In addition, it helps the student think like an engineer, master the preliminary scientific research method, and enhance the ability for analyzing and solving the related problems.
