Abstract In order to acquaint students with the properties and applications of functional polymer materials, a research-oriented comprehensive experiment is developed. The preparation of fluorescent rare earth liquid-crystalline polymer anti-counterfeiting film and modern analytical techniques are applied to the research-oriented comprehensive experiment for polymer specialty in order to improve the innovative and practical abilities of students. The experiment includes preparation, characterization and anti-counterfeiting evaluation of fluorescent rare earth liquid crystal polymers. The chemical structures and performances of luminescent rare earth liquid-crystalline polymers are characterized by FT-IR spectroscopy, polarizing optical microscopy, X-ray diffraction, fluorescence spectrometer and thermogravimetric analysis. In order to evaluate the anti-counterfeiting property, the anti-counterfeiting film of fluorescent rare earth liquid crystal polymers is prepared. The interests and practicality are also improved by the preparation of anti-counterfeiting film. Based on this experiment, students can learn about frontier knowledge of functional polymers and basic principles and purpose of modern analysis technology, as well as the experimental operation skills, data processing skills, which can enhance the professional quality and comprehensive abilities of students. The comprehensive experiment is suitable for experimental teaching of undergraduate.
