Abstract In order to cultivate a group of technical talents with solid foundation, multiple skills, high quality that meet the needs of the society and are welcomed by enterprises, we learned from the experience of advanced vocational education at home and abroad to establish cross-professional compound talent training system, employing the petrochemical professional group of advanced vocational colleges as a pilot project. By adopting strategies such as applying “theory and practice integration” teaching method, setting up a modern apprenticeship pilot, promoting school-enterprise collaborative education program, conducting cross-college, cross-border academic exchanges and creating a compound faculty, we have explored and practiced the “five-cross” training mode for cultivating compound talents, consisting of cross specialty, cross theory and practice, cross schools and enterprises, cross colleges and cross borders.
