Abstract Academic procrastination is a common problem in the scientific research activities of chemistry postgraduates, which has become an important factor hindering their academic progress. In this study, 16 chemistry postgraduates were selected as the interviewees, and the interview data were coded. The results showed that the academic procrastination behavior of chemistry postgraduates was caused by the interaction between individual pressure and motivation, and the antagonism between personality and environment. On the basis, this paper constructs a model of the influencing factors of academic procrastination of chemistry postgraduates, and puts forward countermeasures and suggestions to improve the academic procrastination behavior.
