Abstract This paper makes an analysis and comparison between the journal Chemistry Education Research and Practice (CERP) and the journal Chinese Journal of Chemical Education from 2010 to 2019, which involves the publication, research theme and expression form of chemistry teaching animation in middle schools. In the past two years, the research on animation teaching in the two journals has obviously increased the number of published articles. And the research focuses on the development of interactive animation and the research of teaching application. However, the chemistry teaching topics of the two magazines are quite different. CERP is mainly about three-dimensional representation, redox, and chemical structure and so on, while Chinese Journal of Chemical Education is mainly about specific knowledge points. In addition, the typical articles selected from CERP are introduced in order to provide some reference for domestic chemical educators.
