Abstract Through the literature review of all the articles on the topic of critical thinking (CT)published in the Journal of Chemical Education from 1987 to 2019, the literatures can be divided into five categories based on the content analysis results. The most representative literature is selected from each category as an example to provide a path for the development of critical thinking skills from the five dimensions of experimental process analysis, active learning teaching methods, curriculum planning, correcting textbook errors and analyzing network information. Finally, this paper summarizes the current research status and trends of critical thinking in international chemistry education.
